Mark Schaller

Birds of a Feather

3 November – 27 November 2021

After almost two years of social distancing and enforced isolation, the boon of togetherness is more pertinent than ever.  Schaller’s Birds of a Feather flock together after this time apart, rendered in his characteristic figurative expressionist style. With bold colours and a focus on the form and silhouette of the wild creatures, Schaller is inspired by the natural world and botanical surroundings of Victoria. These charming animals are vibrant and refreshing, friendly and cheeky.

As Schaller himself explains, “when I paint, everything else becomes irrelevant; there’s no one to tell you what’s right or wrong. You can be irrational or rational, emotion or not emotional, sober or conservative. You can be all these things, as you feel”.
