EMILIE HEURTEVENT The Abyss #12, 2020. Acrylic and ink on canvas, 152 cm by 122 cm.
The winning work The Abyss #12 was part of her 2021 exhibition The Abyss at Fox Galleries. Inspired by the mythical presence of the ‘Black Square’ series of Malevich, Heurtevent is looking at new ways to seek refuge in the abandonment of reality. The eventual balance of light and dark, while indulging the contemplation of immeasurable space and darkness.
Emilie Heurtevent is a Melbourne-based abstract artist. Landscapes, classical elements and cycles of decay & renewal are Emilie’s recurring subjects. Like in nature, she believes changes are necessary, serving as an invitation to savour this precious life and a way to experience a sense of growth and purpose. Her work shows landscapes, movement, light and darkness. It is evocative of another place and time and questions what lies beyond our sight.
