THE BUSHFIRE RELIEF AUCTION
LEADING ARTISTS, COLLECTORS, GALLERISTS & JEWELLERS DONATE FOR A MAJOR FUNDRAISING AUCTION AT LEONARD JOEL
Melbourne, Australia – Leonard Joel, Australia’s leading multi-category auction house, has joined forces with leading figures from Melbourne’s art world and beyond to host a major fundraising auction, Bid for Bushfire Relief.
The auction, which features extraordinary donations from prominent artists, collectors, gallerists and jewellers, will take place in Melbourne on Sunday 16 February. 100% of proceeds will be donated to The Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
In the last year, Fox Galleries has held several shows addressing climate change, most recently Emilie Heurtevent‘s Nature which opened two weeks before the New Years’ Eve disaster at Mallacoota. Emilie has donated a painting from Nature to the auction. Other donating artists include Mark Schaller, Victor Rubin, Christine Johnson, Esther Erlich, Mark Davis, Chonggang Du, Shannon Smiley, Eddie Botha and Wayne Fogden.
Michael Fox will be donating artworks from his private collection, including works by Mike Chavez, Maz Dixon, and Matthew Clarke. The Mike Chavez artwork stinkin badges (2004) was created originally as part of a performance event at Fox Galleries, Brisbane in protest of the Iraq war. It was subsequently exhibited in business as usual; a large street art exhibition of notable artists in Australia.
About The Victorian Bushfire Appeal
This appeal provides a formal channel for the public to donate money directly to affected families and communities, by working directly with local communities to inform and drive the distribution of funds.
The Victorian Bushfire Appeal will be conducted by the Bendigo Bank’s charitable arm, Community Enterprise Foundation. Funds raised will be used in a range of locally identified charitable areas to provide practical relief and recovery in the fire-affected areas.
